Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults 2023

Who: Adult Community Members aged 60*

What: The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) is partnering with the Cayuga County Office for the Aging to present their survey. The results from this anonymous survey will guide future state policies, inform the NYSOFA’s priorities in their 4-year plan, and will assist in the development of Governor Hochul’s Master Plan for Aging in New York State.

Syracuse University Minority Stress & Trauma Lab LGBTQ+ Research Study

What: Researchers from The Minority Stress & Trauma Lab (part of the Department of Psychology at Syracuse University) are looking for participants for a paid research study.

Eligibility:

  • Identify as LGBTQ+

  • 18+ in age

  • resident of New York State

  • Have experienced stressful events.

C.H.A.D. is offering Deterra At-Home Medication Disposal Pouches

To aide our community in proper and safe medication disposal; an important step in fighting the drug use epidemic in our community; there are a number of Medication Drop Box locations in Cayuga County. In addition to this, C.H.A.D. is now offering FREE Deterra Pouches for safe, at-home medication disposal.

Nick’s Ride 4 Friends - Support Group Schedule

What: In-person support groups at Nick’s Ride Clubhouse

When: Combat Recovery: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 6-7pm
Men’s Christian Recovery: Tuesdays 7:30-8:30pm
Heroin Anonymous: Wednesdays 7:30-9pm
Veterans Coffee Hour: Thursdays 6-7:30pm
Men’s Support Group: Saturdays 9-10am

*First 3 Saturdays also have events

NAMI Family Support Group

Who: Caregivers of Young Children

What: A family support group that provides support and education on what to expect at certain ages, what you can do to promote good mental health, when to be concerned and how to seek help.

When: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6-7:30pm

Where: Currently meetings are held virtually via Zoom
Third-floor assembly room at Auburn Community Hospital

Virtual Caregiver Coffee & Connection

What: The Cayuga County Office for the Aging invites caregivers to grab a cup of coffee (or tea!) and connect with other caregivers.

When: The 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 10-11 AM. Meetings will begin February 8th, 2022.

Where: Your favorite chair, couch or other comfy spot! Meetings are held via Zoom where you can join by phone or computer.

**This program is hosted by Cayuga County Office for the Aging Caregiver Support Program and funding is from the Administration on Community Living and the NYS Office for the Aging. Any contributions to expand and enhance this service are gratefully accepted.

Project Lifesaver

Who: The program is made possible through a partnership with Cayuga County Office for the Aging and Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department.

What: Project Lifesaver is a rapid-response rescue program for individuals at-risk of wandering and becoming lost. Participants are fitted with a Project Lifesaver wristband that transmits a trackable signal should the participant become lost. Trained personnel in the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department can track this signal via ground or air with search times being greatly reduced.
