Microaggressions presented by Latesha Fussell

Latesha Fussell, the director of Campus Life for Diversity and Inclusion for Wells College, will lead a discussion about microaggressions. She will introduction the topic, how to recognize these insults and how to respond to them. 

This discussion will run from noon to 1 pm Tuesday, May 1, at Cayuga Community College. It's organized by the Adult and Community Task Group of the Human Services Coalition.

Inspiring Lasting Change with Cheryl Martin

Cheryl Martin will share techniques of Motivational Interviewing to help you inspire change among clients by helping them find their own reasons to strive for results. Anyone is welcome to join us, but people who assist clients in adopting changes may find the most benefit.

Registration starts at 8:45 am, with the program running from 9 to 11 am.

 

Cheryl Martin has a BSN in Nursing, MA in Psychology and 46 years of experience as an RN. She has a Trauma Certificate from the University of Buffalo, School of Social Work. She is a Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor and a NYS OASAS Certified SBIRT trainer.  Cheryl is a member of Motivational Interviewing Network Trainers since 2004 and a Motivational Interviewing Assessment Supervisory Tools for Enhancing Proficiency trainer for the NIDA Blending Initiative. Cheryl has 15 years of managerial experience guiding and caring for both adolescents and adults on an OASAS inpatient rehabilitation unit. As well, Cheryl has coached and supported the Monroe County Nurse Family Partnership as they seek to build trauma responsive services and motivational interviewing skills that strengthen new mothers’ parenting and enhance infant/toddler health and development.  Cheryl has developed curriculum and delivered training and/or coaching to schools, human service and health care providers on a variety of topics including: trauma and trauma responsive services, motivational interviewing (MI), person-centered planning, parenting, co-occurring disorders, and substance use disorders.
Cheryl is currently working as an Integrated Health Trainer and Clinical Consultant for Coordinated Care Services, Inc. Prior to CCSI/MCOMH, she served as Nurse Specialist at Catholic Family Center and as Manager at Park Ridge Chemical Dependency Inpatient Rehabilitation for substance use disorders.

King Ferry Chronic Disease Workshop

Cayuga Community Health Network is partnering with LifeSpan Therapies to bring A Healthy You! Chronic Disease Self-Management to King Ferry. The program runs from 10 am to noon Mondays, Sept. 30 through Oct. 30. at Lifespan, 8842 State Route 90N, King Ferry. Anyone 18 and older is welcome to attend this free program, but people with ongoing health conditions and caregivers may particularly benefit. 

Topics include relaxation, mind-body scanning, healthy eating, working with health care providers, medication usage, decision making process, physical activity, better sleep, and pain & fatigue management.

Chicken BBQ Fundraiser

Chicken BBQ fundraiser for the Cayuga Community Health Network. We'll be selling $10 lunches, which include a half-chicken, salt potatoes, cole slaw, a roll and a bottle water. We will be set up in the Auburn Plaza, near Marshalls and Bed, Bath & Beyond. We'll start selling at 11 am and go until about 2 pm, until we're sold out.

Breastfeeding: Strengthening a Community Conference

Laurel Wilson, IBCLC, CLE, CCCE, CLD, will present information to healthcare providers and professionals on the following topics: 

  • Going Viral (and Bacterial): The implications of zika and lyme
  • Marijuana and Breastfeeding: Toxic, neutral or who knows
  • Nutrition and Breastfeeding: Is your baby what you eat, a lesson in nutrigenomics
  • Using mindfulness and three-part lactation counseling for breastfeeding success

Lunch is provided. Registration before July 17 costs $20, and after July 17 costs $25. Fill out the registration form and send that with the check to Cayuga Community Health Network, 2119 W. Genesee St. Road, Auburn, NY 13021.

National Diabetes Prevention Program

This workshop guides people in making changes to their lifestyle to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. it meeting weekly for 16 weeks, followed by 1 or 2 times a month for 8 months.

It will run from 10 am to 11 am Thursdays, starting April 27, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 248 Grant Ave., Auburn.
