The Annual Landlord Workshop returns on Oct. 30, 2019. This year's workshop will discuss changes in Sources of Income, lead hazards, landlord registry, and service/emotional support animals, and more. The $10 fee includes lunch, resource binder, flash drive & NOLO's Landlord's Legal Guide (total $75 value).

Doula Birth Coach Training for Lay People

Anyone who is interested in becoming doulas who support women during pregnancy, during labor, and afterwards can become trained via a DONA certified trainers. The training will take place September 27th through the 29th from 8am to 6pm at Euterpe Hall in Auburn, NY. Beautiful Birth Choices of Rochester will lead the training, and our nonprofit will offer monthly follow-up sessions to ensure you will be successful in launching this business.

Diabetes Fair and Health Expo: Living Healthy with Diabetes

Guests will be able to participate in interactive breakout sessions led by local health agencies and businesses after the speakers. Some featured breakout sessions include Chair Yoga led by the Zen Den Studio, weight lifting demos taught by the YMCA and Skaneateles Strength and Conditioning, and even a healthy cooking demonstration by Rebecca Crawford of the Cornell Cooperative Extension. Exhibition booths with local businesses will also be available for guests to visit to learn more about the healthy lifestyle resources available here in Auburn. The Health Department will check blood pressure, weight, and BMI. The Cayuga Health Network will conduct a pre-diabetes risk assessment test. There will also be an opportunity to register for upcoming workshops, such as the National Diabetes Prevention program, Diabetes Management Education Program, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, and the Auburn YMCA Fighting Insulin Resistance with Strength Training Program. Diabetes Management Education Workshop

Diabetes Management is key to a high quality of life. This eight-week workshop will cover food choices, adding physical activity into your day, improved communication with healthcare providers, stress management, and other skills needed to manage this disease. Caregivers are also welcome to attend this workshop. Peer support will be promoted, and the group will be led by a certified lifestyle coach.

Bike Donation Drop-Off

Clearing out your garage and don’t know what to do with those old bicycles? Our nonprofit is collecting donations of bikes and scooters this spring for preparation for a sale. Even bikes that aren't in good shape can be used for parts. We’re also looking for volunteers who can help repair donated bikes. Interested in lending a hand, stop by any time during the drop-off day.

Seneca St., Weedsport. The class is free and open to the general public. It includes social support, a reference book, and tools to help you take control of your chronic conditions, including diabetes and depression. Anyone welcome, 18 and older, but people with ongoing health conditions and caregivers may find the most benefit. Topics include working with health care providers, communication, better sleep, pain and fatigue , making decisions, action planning, better eating and physical activity.

This year's Landlord Workshop is for new, prospective, or few-unit property owners, and it's call Back to Basics. While anyone is welcome to attend, the materials presented is going to focus on the basics of being a landlord - tenant screening, business plan, and other basic responsibilities that will help operate an effective investment property. Seasoned landlords, too many benefit. 

The $15 registration fee includes lunch, resource binder, flash drive and a copy of NOLO's Landlord's Legal Guide.

Murder Mystery Fundraiser Dinner

The Cayuga Community Health Network is hosting a Murder Mystery Dinner as its fall fundraiser. A theater company will lead the event at The Point on Sand Beach on Oct. 20. The cost is $70 per ticket or $600 for a table of 10 which includes a three-course dinner and a ghoulish mystery to solve.

The menu is so good it's scary: A mixed green salad, oven roasted turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, baked eggplant parmesan, penne pasta with marinara sauce, and dessert.

Cultural Competencies: Working with LGBTQ+ populations

The Q Center will present a cultural competency workshop that cover the basics of sexuality and gender, statistics, health disparities, and misconceptions around the LGBTQ+ community. Facilitators will offer suggestions on best practices working with the community. During the presentation, the participants have an opportunity to engage in several activities that provide opportunities for questions or discussions that could explore biases, privilege, and microaggressions.

This workshop is provided with support from the Human Services Coalition of Cayuga County, and its Adult & Community Task Group.
