Real time community health assessment data is not readily available to community based organizations and the general public, and what is, is very expensive to obtain. Every county health department and hospital is mandated to conduct periodic “assessments” of health status and service needs, but there is no consistent ongoing assessment of progress in changing health behaviors, opinions, or perceptions monitoring change.
The December 2007 Cayuga County Community Health Assessment: A Survey of Adult Residents of the County Opinions, Behaviors, and Perceptions Related to Personal Health, Access to Healthcare, Physical Activity Participation and Perceived Barriers, Communitywide Health, Community Changes, Need for Health Services, Chronic Disease Prevalence, and Health Risk Factor Prevalence was conducted to address this lack of usable real time data.
Five hundred (500) county residents, representative of the county population as a whole, were surveyed as to their health status, behaviors, practices, attitudes, and perceptions concerning the state of Cayuga County’s health and availability of services. The findings of which have been published, below, in the attached *.pdf file for your examination and use.
It is our hope to be able to re-administer and publish this survey on a biennial basis as an ongoing measure of the impact of preventive and interventive programs promoting health and wellness. Herewith, the report… or choose Table of Contents/ cover sheet - Report
